It is always my perception towards any difficult situation that will make me a winner or a loser, no other person is responsible. It is also the fact that my perception towards any situation is based on my beliefs, surroundings, my upbringing and my experience. If my perception towards the difficult situation is negative, then the probability is higher that my reaction towards that situation will be any of the following:
Obviously, my perception and reaction will not change mere by speaking or writing, unless I implement or learn to condition my mind and the body. Well, I think that by implementing following strategies one can become adept in dealing the tough situations: (1) Accept your situation and take its responsibility
The very first step to deal any challenge in your life is to accept that situation completely without any condition or reservations. This total acceptance will give you the true picture of the situation and you will be able to fathom the gravity of it. Then, take the responsibility of it without blaming anybody responsible for creating such adverse situation. This acceptance will devoid you from the feelings of hatred, anger or frustration towards any other person.
I think we need to understand it better with the help of an example, if anyone’s loved one is met with an accident or say a heart failure or any other life threatening situation and she/he is informed about it. The very first reaction in most of the cases is of panicking and crying. Although, this is the most crucial time when one needs to be stable and take immediate action to provide the best possible aid in minimum possible time, so that the life of his/her loved one can be saved. Therefore, taking immediate corrective action of the tough situation helps in eliminating the element of urgency from it. Consider another case, you lose your job, the first reaction could be that you scream or shout at your boss or you end up feeling self-pity about your situation. These reactions are showing that the situation is dominating your feelings and you have become the victim of it. The feelings of self-pity, anger or frustration will only have a negative effect on your own health and self-confidence. The sooner you accept the situation, the better you will be able to take the right decision to improve the situation. So don’t become a victim of the situation rather take small baby steps to improve it. Your perception of this situation and the reaction afterwards decide your capability of handling it. (2) Do your own research and stop taking opinion from others
After taking the immediate corrective action, you are now placed at the first level of stability, for example, you immediately provided the first aid to the serious patient & admitted him to the nearest hospital. You handled the element of urgency in a very effective & efficient manner and now you have reached a level where the things are comparatively stable with respect to the previous situation. Here you get some more time to evaluate the situation and take the next step. Either you spend this crucial time in taking opinions from others and make a fickle decision, or do your own extensive research to know the exact gravity of the situation and take the firm decision with confidence. Actually, taking opinions from others without indulging yourself into the situation will give you superficial confidence while on the other hand, your research about the situation will give a clear picture to take the right decision that will take you a long way. In the above example when you know the exact condition of the patient, procedures involved in treating him/her, general medicines required to treat him, the side effects, time of recovery, the cost involved in the whole procedure will give a clear picture of the whole situation and you will be able to take 100 times better decision as compared to when your decision is solely based on the opinions of others. Moreover, your conversation with the treating doctor will be more assertive and enriching, which not only makes him connected with the case but also motivate him to treat him in a best possible way. The things are same with other tough situations in life like somebody is under heavy debt and is finding very difficult to feed his family or some one has failed in the examination.
(3) Remove the element of fear & believe in yourself
Every time you are about to take next step you will be engulfed with the feeling of fear which will pull you back from taking the decision. The tough times are always filled with uncertainty and this uncertainty give rise to the feeling of fear. Here, you need to believe in yourself and your gut feeling and take the next step ahead in order to reach the level of stability. In the process of trying and reaching from one stability level to the next higher stability level, you will definitely make some mistakes, you will fail and fall but instead of wasting time in self-pity, try to rectify the mistakes as soon as possible and don’t repeat next time, soon you will find that you are going in the right direction.
(4) Never hesitate in asking for help in your tough times
You cannot handle every situation yourself, you need a help of your close friends, relatives and family members to handle the situation and help you out. Seeking help from others reduces the intensity of the tough situation and gives you a kind of relief that helps you in taking better decision. For example, in an emergency situation you need immediate funds which you are unable to arrange yourself. To deal with this urgent situation, don’t hesitate to ask for any kind of financial or emotional help from your close or near ones, because they are the people who can help you out and can actually boost your confidence in dealing with the situation in a more effective and efficient manner.
(5) Take one day at a time & always be grateful to the GOD
Always take one day at a time in these tough circumstances, as everything is filled with uncertainty and making future plans will not work out. You may face new situation every day which is beyond the purview of planning, therefore take one single day at a time and make most of it using your presence of mind. When you finish the day in these tough circumstances never forget to remember GOD and thank him for whatever he has done to you. He is the one who gives you the strength to deal with such difficult situation. This practice will let you release all your emotion at the end of the day and you will feel rejuvenate to deal with the tough situation the very next day.
These above-mentioned techniques will help you in leading a happy and confident life despite the level of challenges you are facing in your life. Related Articles:
