How to make great product description that increases your sales?

Describing the product
You have an opportunity to increase online sales if you can describe your product more effectively. But simply writing the features and benefits of the product cannot grab the attention of the buyer. ​
"The whole purpose of product description is to sell your products"
The real product description is one which creates its picture in the mind of the reader and compelled her/him to buy the product.

Let us know the ways to design the product description which motivate the readers to buy the product:

Keep your ideal customer in mind

First, you should know, what product you are selling & where you are selling?

For example, you are selling a saree (Indian traditional wear) then your ideal customer is a lady who is attached to the traditions in her routine work.

Try to get into her mind while writing the details of the product. You can also meet personally or talk through the phone, asking her preferences for wearing a saree.

You can ask questions like:
  • What is in her mind when she put on saree in a daily routine, for vacations, for office work, and on special occasions?
  • Note the words and the adjectives she is using in her conversation and replicate the same in your product description.

Sugar coating to the benefits

It is not only you but many other online entrepreneurs are selling the product with almost the same features and design.

Also, the customer is not interested in the basic/mundane features of the product, s/he is looking for something extra which can occupy her/his mind and motivate to buy the product.

Now it is up to you how compelling you can make the product description to grab the attention of the customer?

Your words should make the picture of the product in the mind of the customer, letting her/him go in the imaginary world where s/he starts experiencing the product.

And once you get successful in this art, your sales will increase automatically. 

Let me try an example: 

“It is not about wearing a saree but it is a natural desire of Indian women to pass on this treasure as an inheritance to every other woman in the house.

​Enjoy the luxury of the rich heritage with our versatile range of sarees."


Justify the adjectives

Don’t just say that your product is durable, comfortable, and worth for money rather authenticate and justify these adjectives with the technical details of the product.

For example:
  • The spandex (synthetic fibre) is stretchable which will give you the comfort of sitting
  • The silk used in this saree will keep you warm and comfortable while working as it absorbs sweat more effectively
  • As it is made from natural silk, it very soft and gives the lustrous finish of fine silk

Give the feel of the product

As your product is online, the customer cannot touch, taste, smell or hear the showcased product.

You have to arouse their senses through your words.

Therefore, use the words like velvety, smooth, crisp, luscious, aromatic, silky, sparkling, twinkling etc. in your product description to appeal the reader’s imagination.

Add social proofs and reviews

Give the comfort and sense of security to your reader by adding the social proofs and the reviews in your product description.

​It is found that the products with these features are liked and bought by the customers more frequently.

Conclusion

Your photography should be a sort of diagram based which describes the specification and the dimensions of the product.

The crisp photographs from all relevant angles and the right product description can definitely stand you out from others.

​The competition is intense but when you keep in mind these points while designing the product description, you will likely to see more sales in your online store.
