Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1987 at Milan, Ohio of United States of America. He was the inventor and great businessman of his times. He had the most number of patents in his name, which includes 1093 US patents along with patents in Germany, UK and France. His most popular inventions Phonograph, Motion Picture Camera and the Electric Bulb made great influence in the lives of people around the world. He was called “The Wizard of the Menlo Park” and he was the first few contributors to apply the principle of mass production.
He was credited for the person behind the first Industrial Research Laboratory. He had no formal schooling, had hearing problems and sold newspapers on trains, yet he was considered as one of America’s successful and leading businessman.
I will discuss the success tips from his own quotes, which states his mindset and attitude towards achieving success.

I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work

  • How many times can you afford to try to reach to your goal?
  • What is your outlook on failure?
  • How do you feel when you fail?
Well, you can take failure as part of process in achieving your goal. The more you try, the nearer you reach to your goal. If you see failure as something very huge and disappointing, you probably get very afraid in trying again because of fear of getting failed.
  • Don’t get upset from your failures, rather see them as those ways which won’t work and try to discover new way to reach to your goal.
  • Re-frame your mind to learn from failures rather than getting scared of trying again.
  • Try to focus your mind on finding the solution rather than crying over failure.
If you analyze, every failure teaches you with important lesson that makes you wiser, stronger and prepares you for the next attempt. There is nothing in this world that you can’t achieve, it is always a matter of trying.

Many of life's failures are people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up

We think that things should work out in three or four attempts and if they don’t, we leave them even without considering that how close could be the goal. Our mind is conditioned to find the quick solution because of the expectations of the society and the surroundings. This mentality will make you try every new thing, try it for few times, get failed and then switch to another thing repeating the same procedure, get disappointed and then jump to next new thing. Your chance of success diminishes with fewer attempts. The chances of success increases if you can try 20-30 times instead of 2- 3 times, the result will be different if you try for six months instead of one month.

The value of an idea lies in the using of it

Try to analyze the following ideas:
  • I will wake up early in the morning
  • I will take healthy and nutritious diet
  • I will read some good book this month
  • I will visit an old friend of mine
  • I will save more this month on-wards
  • I will learn new skill, so on
The idea generation will not help unless you implement it. You cannot grow or improve by merely thinking about success. The only formula to success is to implement your idea and convert it into reality through your actions.

Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration

All great things are done with constant efforts and perseverance. An intelligent person with skills cannot achieve his/her goal if lacks constant efforts. Your perseverance and efforts makes you a genius in your field.

You can't realize your dream unless you have one to begin with

Working without goal is actually not working, it is called wandering. You must have some purpose or goal in your mind. You have to prepare the route map of your goal and try to move forward towards it on daily basis. You need to prioritize your tasks with proper and systematic planning, so that you don’t lose track of your goal. Try to find the real dream of your life and then start pursuing it passionately by taking small steps daily (Please read "7 daily morning habits of successful people"). So, you should always give a one more time, every time you fail, who knows how close you are from your dreams?
